Sorrell Reads Sorrell ft. Live Theremin Music

Covid could only delay this momentous occasion, but not stop it! Join Seth “The Mountain” Sorrell as he reads poems from his published poetry books, From the Mountain and The Vicious Rose. Xan Hughes will start out the night at 5:30 pm with a 30-minute Theremin pre-show! Hughes will continue to play the Theremin throughout Sorrell’s set. He will also be reading poems from his upcoming first Christian poetry book, Hand of God. Sorrell will also read poems that have yet to be compiled into a book and published! There will be raffles for a $20 MO Joe’s gift card, $20 Chapter 2 Books gift card, $20 Pizza Junkiez gift card, and copies of From the Mountain and The Vicious Rose! If you thought poetry readings were boring, you’ve not heard the Mountain spit his rhymes!

THE THEREMIN:

The theremin is one of the WORLD’S FIRST electronic musical instruments invented by Soviet-Russian physicist Leon Theremin around 1919.

The musical instrument consists of usually two antennas that emit an electro-magnetic field. Your hands/body can interact with the antennas in mid-air, controlling volume and pitch.

There are no frets, no strings, or any physical structure when playing the theremin. It’s simply just thin air!

WHAT TO EXPECT:

This Saturday’s performance will feature live theremin “flute” music by Xan Hughes; a local thereminist and avid educator on the theremin.

The theremin “flute” project is an innovation in theremin music as the instrument creates ethereal sounds that sound a lot like a hollow wooden flute.

These influences that create the theremin “flute” consist of and are said to sounds similar to the Indian sitar, a traditional Chinese instrument called the erhu, and North American Native Indigenous soothing flute sounds. Quite a relaxing experience!

During a few time windows between Seth the Mountain’s poetry, Hughes will be allowing audience members to try the theremin! Ask to try!
